Questo articolo ha l’obiettivo di tracciare una breve rassegna di quella variegata nebulosa di critici che, a partire da metà degli anni ’70 e con particolare intensità dagli anni ’90 in poi, ha cercato di riprendere una riflessione consapevole e rigorosa sul pensiero di Giovanni Gentile dopo decenni di damnatio memoriae. Attraverso queste letture, spesso incentrate sul tentativo di mettere in luce l’aporia intrinseca alla filosofia gentiliana, l’attualismo si offrirebbe non solo come una tappa fondamentale della storia del pensiero italiano, ma sarebbe capace di confrontarsi con l’opera dei più grandi pensatori della tarda modernità, costituendo un capitolo decisivo nel lungo processo della crisi della metafisica occidentale. Nel tentativo di corroborare questa tesi, l’articolo medita l’attualismo alla luce di alcuni concetti-chiave (“attività”, “immanenza”, “prassi”, “affermazione”, “forma”) e propone alcune ipotesi di lavoro per una possibile prosecuzione della ricerca.

This article aims at making a brief review of that variegated nebula of critics which, starting from the mid-70s, and with particular intensity from the 90s onwards, tried to resume a conscious and rigorous reflection on Giovanni Gentile’s thought after decades of damnatio memoriae. Through these readings, often centered on the attempt to highlight the intrinsic aporia of Gentile’s philosophy, actualism not only offers itself as a fundamental stage in the history of Italian theory, but appears capable of being compared with the work of the greatest thinkers of late modernity, constituting a decisive chapter in the long process of the crisis of Western metaphysics. In an attempt to support this thesis, the article ponders actualism in the light of some key concepts (“activity”, “immanence”, “praxis”, “affirmation”, “form”) and proposes some working hypotheses for a possible continuation of the research.
