Abstract [Ita]
Nel 1795 Fichte dichiara: «Il mio sistema è il primo sistema della libertà». In questo modo egli ritiene di aver portato a conclusione il processo da lui iniziato anni prima, nel corso del quale i rapporti tra la necessità del sistema e la libertà umana si erano variamente configurati.
Da parte sua Schelling, nel 1809, ritiene ancora valida la «leggenda antica e non ancora dissipata», secondo la quale «il concetto di libertà è incompatibile con il sistema, ed ogni filosofia che ha pretesa di unità e di totalità perviene alla negazione della libertà», contestando indirettamente la riuscita dell’impresa fichtiana e riservando a sé stesso il compito di proporre la soluzione allo spinoso problema.
Il presente saggio esamina e valuta gli sforzi compiuti dai due filosofi in vista del raggiungimento del comune obiettivo di dare vita a una filosofia sistematica, che però rispetti e garantisca la libertà umana.

In 1795 Fichte declares: «My system is the first system of freedom». In this way he maintains to have ended the process he had started years before, in the course of which the relationships between the necessity of the system and human freedom were configured in various ways.
In 1809 Schelling, on his part, considers still valid the «old and not yet dissipated» legend according to which «the concept of liberty is incompatible with the system and every philosophy that claims unity and totality reaches the negation of freedom», indirectly criticizing the success of Fichte’s endeavour and reserving for himself the task of finding a solution to the thorny problem.
This essay examines and evaluates the efforts made by the two philosophers in view of reaching the common objective of giving birth to a systematic philosophy, which respects and guarantees, however, human freedom.
