Il contributo si propone di discutere il rapporto tra ontologia e politica nell’opera di Merleau-Ponty; i temi principali sono, da un lato, lo statuto temporale del senso e, dall’altro, la struttura della storia come relazione tra movimento e inerzia, così come definita ne Le avventure della dialettica. In particolare, queste due categorie e la loro articolazione si rivelano strumenti interpretativi utili per comprendere lo statuto della democrazia contemporanea, intesa – secondo la definizione di Rosanvallon – come un regime politico radicato nella storia.

Abstract [Eng]
The paper aims to discuss the relationship between ontology and politics in Merleau-Ponty’s work; the main themes are, on the one hand, the temporal status of meaning and, on the other hand, the structure of history as a relation between movement and inertia, as defined in Adventures of the Dialectic. In particular, these two categories, and their articulation, prove to be useful lenses for interpreting the status of contemporary democracy, understood – according to Rosanvallon’s definition – as a political regime rooted in history.
