The paper addresses the question of the use of metaphors and analogies for events such as the Holocaust in the context of the discourse on the reduction of historiography to its narrative or rhetorical dimension and reflects on the philosophical implications of this reduction with respect to the question of post-truth. In particular, we take as a point of departure the skeptical challenge coming from Hayden White's meta-history, an interesting cue to essay the undoubted persuasive effectiveness of the use of the Shoah metaphor in other contexts, but at the same time to question its permissibility in some cases. Comparison with the prominence given to metaphor in Hannah Arendt's reflection places emphasis on the question of the narrative of historical phenomena and the potential of metaphorical operating for acting in the plural dimension, but also on metaphorical thinking as a bridge thrown over the gulf between the activity of the mind and the world of appearance.

Il contributo affronta la questione dell’impiego di metafore e analogie per eventi come la Shoah nel contesto del discorso sulla riduzione della storiografia alla sua dimensione narrativa o retorica e riflette sulle implicazioni filosofiche di tale riduzione rispetto alla questione della post-verità . In particolare, si assume come punto di partenza la sfida scettica che proviene dalla metastoria di Hayden White, spunto interessante per saggiare l’indubbia efficacia persuasiva del ricorso alla metafora della Shoah in altri contesti, ma al tempo stesso per metterne in discussione in taluni casi la liceità . Il confronto con il rilievo assegnato alla metafora nella riflessione di Hannah Arendt pone l’accento sulla questione della narrazione dei fenomeni storici e sul potenziale dell’operare metaforico per l’agire nella dimensione plurale, ma anche sul pensare metaforico, quale ponte gettato sull’abisso tra l’attività della mente e il mondo dell’apparenza.
