I diversi posizionamenti politici assunti da Merleau-Ponty e Sartre durante la guerra fredda vengono interpretati alla luce del concetto di reversibilità coniato da Merleau-Ponty. In questo modo, dietro alle divergenze appaiono inattese convergenze: la parzialità si rivela complementarità, poiché ciascuna parte incarna un lato di quel processo a molteplici epicentri che è una decisione, sempre universale singolare. Nel punto intermedio fra i due posizionamenti emerge una zona di giuntura chiasmatica: essa rinvia a quell’intero che è una nuova prassi in corso e una nuova decisione. Ad esempio, quella assunta nel presente articolo, che disgiunge e congiunge le parti nella disposizione di una composizione.

The different political positions taken by Merleau-Ponty and Sartre during the Cold War are interpreted in light of the concept of reversibility coined by Merleau-Ponty. In this way, behind the divergences, unexpected convergences appear: partiality reveals itself as complementarity, since each side embodies an aspect of that multi-centred process which is a decision, always a universally singular one. At the intermediate point between the two positions, a chiasmatic junction zone emerges: it refers back to that whole which is a new praxis in progress and a new decision – for example, the one undertaken in the present article, which separates and unites the parts in the arrangement of a composition.
